Lucky thirteen turned out to fence on Sunday. We had another first timer,
Patrick Wojcik. After a week to get some classes in, Tony "the Pirate"
Johnson made it back to the Stab-N-Grab scene. We did have one key person
missing, Libby. Rumor had it she was sick but apparently she had the post-
holiday doldrums and blew off the Stab-N-Grab. Luckily, forty weeks of
training enabled the group to put together an event without her. I guess
nobody is indispensable.
Jonah and Ken were up first with Ken's experience and wily ways winning.
Michele and Tony were next and Tony's pirate style overcame Michele's foil
technique. Stephanie and Everett followed and Everett, recent two time winner,
moved past Stephanie. Greg and Filip fought next and Filip was able to slide
by Greg, who was still bemoaning his tendency to lose by one touch on Tuesday.
New participant Patrick faced Jack, the Giant Killer. They were evenly matched
in size and Jack's experience won the bout.
Frank and Ken started round two with Ken almost beating Frank. Tony faced
Alan who has been improving and Alan took the win. Andrew and Everett were
next and Everett's smooth moves won the day. Filip and Jack followed with
Filip moving past little Jack. Round three started with Alan and Frank.
Unfortunetly, Frank taught Alan everything Alan knows so Frank was able
to move on. Everett and Filip followed and Filip took down Everett, who
started two touches down because of his two prior weeks wins.
The final was Frank and Filip. The room of course was rooting for Filip
and it seems there was some disappointment when Frank won, so much so
that the score sheet actually had Filip's name as the winner and was
scratched out and someone wrote "FRANK!!" in large bold letters. Hummm,
I wonder who that could have been? So with the holidays past us it seems
we are returning to fencing as normal and we hope that we can get more
good turnouts!
