Total Fencers 13

We had another first timer this week join the fray, Pierce Kong. He did
pretty well his first time by making it to the finals. Way to go Pierce! We
have now had 86 participants. Not bad for a little sunday afternoon event.
In spite of summer vacations and the typical Nevada heat, we had thirteen
fencers show up to make a grab for Pierre Reposte.

For a change of pace, in two weeks we are going to have a team competition
instead of the Stab-N-Grab. Each team will consist of two people. A list
fencers who can not team up with each other will be posted. This is being
done to even the playing field, so to speak. Check out the list this week
and start picking your teams! There's been talk around the center to put
together some men's and women's team to compete in next years UFF and UFSA
Nationals, this would be a good way to begin that process.

Everett and Pierce

The tournament started with Filip and Tony. Filip starting with a handicap
of four touches against him faced Tony who only has one against him. Filip
was able to pull off the four touches against Tony he needed to win (5-4).
Pierce got the one touch he needed to knock Frank out of the game, Frank
was pretty surprised by first timer Pierce! (5-2). Aubrey and John followed
in a pretty even match. Aubrey fueled by frozen coffee took the win
(5-4). Eric and Michele fought next, and Eric (recently returned after a
long absence) was able to defeat Michele (5-3). Everett and Libby faced off
with Everett just squeaking by (5-4).

EVerett and Eric

Round two began with Jessica and Filip. Filip was able to continue his
winning streak (5-4). Pierce and Aubrey followed with Pierce also coninuing
his winning streak (5-3). Jack and Eric fought next with Eric taking the win
(5-2). I have to say though, Jack is getting better. His is showing more
control over his bladework and as always he is fearless. Everett and Alan
were the last competitors of round two. Everett's smooth moves and long
lunge outdistanced Alan's long reach and fleching, giving Everett the win (5-3).

Tony and Filip

Filip then faced Pierce. Both fought hard but Pierce only needing one touch
managed to get past Filip's reach and won (5-1). Eric and Everett were next.
It was a close match. Everett the more agressive seemed bent on world domination
and Eric was ready to spend his time at the red line. The usual suspects
behaving in the usual ways. In this case, Everett won out (5-4). The final
was Pierce and Everett. Both fought well but Everett's experience won out
with a win (5-2).
