Total Fencers 16
Year two started with sixteen fencers and another newcomer. We now have had
82 people trying their hand at a Stab-N-Grab. It was a fun time. We were
missing some regulars like Ken, Sean and Scott, who were away at a tournament
in another state. Go Red Rock! Hopefully they did well.
With a full tableau of sixteen there were no byes in the first round. Newcomer
Roxanne started against Terance. Terance with more experience was able to move
up (5-2). Phillip got the short straw and had to fence Frank. The crowd was
cheering loudly for him but Frank was able to get the touches to win (5-3).
Jessica fought Greg and Greg powered through to the next level (5-3). Libby
got the other short straw and had to fence Filip. Filip moved up (5-4). Jim
and Michelle (Michelle with two 'L's and doesn't fence foil) lost to Jim (5-4).
Father and son, John and Jack, followed. Jack lived up to his name, the 'Giant
Killer' and took his father down (5-3). Other son, Alan fought Andrew and Alan
was victorious (5-3). I guess the magic is gone from Andrew's magic pants!
The last bout was Ava and Taylor with Taylor moving up (5-4).
Round two started with Terance and Frank and much to Frank's surprise Terance won
(5-1). This is where Frank tells me I have to add that he starts down three touches,
so there's his excuse. Greg got the short straw in round two and had to fence Filip
and lost (5-4). Jim fought Jack and being pretty rusty Jim took it seriously. Jim
complained about how fast Jack was but not quite fast enough and Jim moved up (5-3).
Lastly, Alan fought Taylor and in an upset Taylor took Alan down (5-3).
Round three started with Terrance and Filip. This time Terance was not able to
pull any surprises and Filip won (5-4). Jim fought Taylor and Jim's experience
and reach gave him the victory (5-3). the final was Filip and Jim. Filip started
down three because he's won three times. Although he didn't make me tell you, and
Jim hasn't had any wins. It was a hard fought battle and went to a tie at 4-4 and
5-5 but Filip's smooth moves snatched the win (5-4). Filip now has four wins and
it's beginning to look like he might be able to win the second series as well as
the first series. Good luck Filip!
