Total Fencers 31
Oh my god! The one year anniversary for the Stab-N-Grab was a smashing
success! We had thirty-one people show up. It beat the record by two people
and we didn't even have to recruit any bystanders. It was amazing! We have
also had eighty-one people participate now. Our family participation is
growing, Tony Johnson's son, Ash has now joined the fun. The list of families
is growing and includes; the Johnson's, the Umanos, the Mendoza's, the Wojcik's
and the Jaspers. It is great to see families coming out. The potluck was a
success too. There was tons of food and everyone had a great time. Thanks
to everyone who participated and made our one year party a great success!
We had to use a 32 person tableau and only had one bye the first round. I'm still
stuned at the attendance. With so many people we ran three strips to keep things
going. Stefany and Greg started the day off with Greg winning (5-1). Patrick and Ramzey
fought with Ramzey winning (5-1). Michele lost to Magic Pants Andrew (5-3). Jacob
faced off with Tony and dropped (5-1). Tony was encouraged to lose so he could get
the cooking started but he chose to ignore those suggestions. Sirely and Everett
were next with Everett taking the win (5-4). Newcomer Ash had the bad luck to start
off against Frank and lost (5-4). Jack faced Kimberly and lost (5-3). Jim and Libby
fought next and Jim moved up (5-3). Ray fought Jessica and won (5-3). John and Scott
were next with Scott winning (5-3). Filip and Lisa followed with Filip winning (5-4).
Alan fought Ryan and Ryan won (5-4). Leona and Steve faced off with Steve winning (5-4).
Sean fenced Austin and Sean moved up (5-1). The last bout of the first round was
Jeff and Ken with Ken winning (5-1). Whew, that was a lot of bouts!
Round two started with Jonah and Greg with Greg moving up (5-2). Ramzey and Andrew
followed with Ramzey taking the win (5-4). Tony and Everett were next. Again Tony
was encouraged to lose so the cooking could start but again he didn't listen and
won (5-1). Frank fought Kimberly and won (5-4). Jim and Ray faced off and Ray was
was able to move up (5-2). Scott and Filip had a close bout including equipment
issues and Scott emerged the winner (5-4). Ryan and Steve followed with Ryan winning
(5-2). The last bout was Ken and Sean, Corporate challenge teammates, with Ken
winning (5-3).
Round three started with Greg and Ramzey and Greg just squeaked by (5-4). Tony faced
Frank and since Frank starts three touches down Tony took advantage and won (5-4).
So he still hasn't started cooking! I guess he'd rather fence than cook.
Ray and Scott fought and Ray almost took him down but Scott won (5-4). Lastly,
Ryan and Ken fought with Ryan taking the win (5-3).
And on to round four with Greg and Tony. Much taunting occurred and cries for Tony
to start cooking but Tony obviously didn't want to cook and Greg boarded the train
to Loserville (5-3). Scott and Ryan followed and in an upset Ryan took Scott down
(5-3). The final was Tony and Ryan. It was exciting and especially when Tony won
his first Stab-N-Grab (5-3). It was great seeing so much great fencing and to have
a new winner on the anniversary. Food and festivities commenced and everyone had a
good time and there was even more fencing afterwards. I guess to work off all the
good food! With an anniversary like this one it seems possible we may be able to
continue Stab-N-Grabs for another year. Happy Birthday Pierre Reposte!
