Total Fencers 20
It was a great turnout with twenty fencers showing up. We had another new participant,
a long time Red Rock regular, Amanda Marks. We actually had seven women competing
today. It was a wonderful thing to see the room full of fencers ready to do battle.
It was also a day of upsets with some really surprising wins and losses, but I get
ahead of myself.
With twenty fencers we had to go to a thirty-two person tableau so there were
several byes in the first round. Filip and Joseph, started us off with Filip
taking the win. Jack and Patrick faced off with Patrick again taking the win.
Scott and Ava fought with Scott moving up. Frank and Andrew were
the last of the first round and Frank took the win in a close bout.
Stefany and Filip started round two and was the first of the days upsets with
Stefany winning. I should add here that Filip started down three touches so
he was pretty challenged to take the victory. Austin and Taylor followed with
Austin taking the win. Another note to add, Taylor strained a muscle in her
neck so she wasn't up to her full fighting strength. Patrick and Ja were next.
This was the second of the big upsets for the day because Patrick defeated Ja.
Note number three, Ja started down three touches because of the rule that a
rated fencer joining the competition in mid-stream starts with the same handicap
as the leading fencer. Greg and Alan saw Greg taking the victory. First timer
Amanda then faced Scott. Amanda was able to take Scott down, Scott started down
three while Amanda was unrated and therefore didn't get the handicap. Libby and
John fought next. John was able to take down Libby. Michele and Jonah fought
with Jonah taking the win. The last bout of round two was Frank and Jessica
and Frank took the victory.
Round three started with Stefany and Austin. Austin took the win. Greg and
Patrick followed and Greg showed no mercy to young Patrick and took the win.
There were many cries of being a puppy kicker but Greg didn't care, he fences
to win. Amanda and John were next and Amanda took John down. Jonah and Frank
were the last of the third round and Frank moved up again. There were no upsets
in this round.
Up first in round four was Austin and Greg. This was another one of the day's upsets
with Austin taking down Greg. I do have to admit that Austin is getting better
all the time. He's showing up quite often in the finals. I expect he will be the
winner sometime soon. The other bout of the round was Amanda and Frank
With the crowd cheering loudly for Amanda, she defeated Frank and moved
on to the final round. Thus it was Austin and Amanda in the final. It was a
hard fought battle but Amanda stayed her purposed and won the day. So we have
a new winner this week and the first woman to win Stab-N-Grab series number two.
