Red Rock Open Vegas Cup #1

General Event Information

The Red Rock Open on September 12th was the first offical
fencing tournament of the new season. It was for seniors,
which just means you have to be thirteen or older. It was
scheduled to include all three weapons. Each event started
with a pool with 5 touch bouts and then 15 touch direct
elimination bouts.

The events included:
  • Individual Mixed Epee
  • Individual Mixed Foil
  • Individual Mixed Sabre
    •

    Michele Tayengeo - Foil
    Ramzey Mendoza - Saber

    Stephanie Mendoza - Saber

    Results from the pool of eight:
    Filip Preradovic - 7 Victories & 0 Losses
    Eric Clark - 4 Victories & 3 Losses
    Tank Anderson - 3 Victories & 4 Losses
    Ken Colgate - 3 Victories & 4 Losses
    Ryan Dolye - 3 Victories & 4 Losses
    Sirley Hernandez-Luna - 3 Victories & 4 Losses
    Libby Garry - 3 Victories & 4 Losses
    Gabriel Hernandez - 2 Victories & 5 Losses
    As you can tell it was a pretty evenly matched pool
    with Filip being the clear leader. Everyone else
    fought hard and stayed pretty even.

    The direct elimination started with Filip and Gabriel
    with Filip winning. Libby and Ken were next with Ken
    moving up. Sirley and Tank followed with Tank continuing.
    Ryan and Eric were last with Ryan moving up. Filip then
    fought Ken and won. Tank and Ryan were next with Ryan
    defeating Tank. The final was Ryan and Filip. It was a
    hard fought battle with Filip winning the event.
    The Winners:
    1st Place - Filip Preradovic
    2nd Place Ryan Dolye
    3rd Place Tie - Tank Anderson
    3rd Place Tie - Ken Colgate

    2nd Event - Foil
    4 Participants

    Results from the pool of four:
    Eric Clark - 1 Victory & 2 Losses
    Ken Colgate - 2 Victories & 1 Loss
    Libby Garry - 1 Victory & 2 Losses
    Michele Tayengco - 2 Victories & 1 Loss
    The direct elimination started with Ken and Eric. It
    was very amusing to watch the epee fencers using all
    epee techniques. It is amazing how many arm touches
    there are when they don't count. Anyway, Eric defeated
    Ken. Libby and Michele (Michele being the only true foil
    fencer in the group) fought next. Libby was able to
    squeak past Michele to win. That made Libby and Eric the
    final with Eric total enthusiasm and athletic ability
    beating out the old lady.
    The Winners:
    1st Place - Eric Clark
    2nd Place Libby Garry
    3rd Place Tie - Michele Tayengco
    3rd Place Tie - Ken Colgate

    3rd Event - Saber

    Jason Hirschman - 5 Victories & 0 Losses
    Stephanie Mendoza - 4 Victories & 1 Loss
    Ramzey Mendoza - 3 Victories & 2 Losses
    Libby Garry - 1 Victory & 4 Losses
    Ken Colgate - 1 Victory & 4 Losses
    Eric Clark - 1 Victory & 4 Losses
    Jason and Stephanie both had byes in the first direct
    eliminations. Libby and Eric fought the first battle
    with Libby taking the win. Ramzey and Ken were next
    with Ramzey continuing. Jason and Libby faced off and
    Jason was the clear winner. Ramzey and Stephanie were
    last with Stephanie taking the win in an upset. The
    final was Jason and Stephanie and Jason took the victory.
    The Winners:
    1st Place - Jason Hirschman
    2nd Place Stephanie Mendoza
    3rd Place Tie - Libby Garry
    3rd Place Tie - Ramzey Mendoza

    AND A GOOD TIME
    WAS HAD BY ALL!
